Jeremiah 45–48 · Proverbs 20

TODAY’S DEVOTION
We often want God to show us the whole road before we agree to take the first step. Proverbs gives a humbler picture: our steps remain under the Lord’s oversight even when our understanding is incomplete. Faithfulness does not require knowing everything. It requires responding to what God has made clear.
The Lord’s guidance never contradicts His written Word, and it does not excuse impatience, presumption, or avoidance of wise counsel. Sometimes direction arrives as a command already present in Scripture: forgive, tell the truth, pray, serve, repent, remain faithful. Do not despise the ordinary next step because it lacks drama. A life led by God is usually formed through many small obediences that only later reveal the road He was building.

The word rendered “goings” refers to steps or a course of movement. The proverb contrasts God’s oversight of the path with limited human understanding.
