A Heart That Still Grieves
Ezekiel 7–9
“And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.”

TODAY’S DEVOTION
God took notice of those who grieved over the sin around them. They were not entertained by darkness, numb to it, or quietly adjusted to it. Their sorrow showed that their hearts remained aligned with God’s holiness. This was not self-righteous outrage. It was the ache of people who understood that sin wounds lives, profanes what belongs to God, and separates people from His purpose.
The church must never lose its capacity to grieve and pray. We can speak truth without contempt and carry a burden without surrendering hope. The Holy Ghost does not merely make us louder about what is wrong; He makes us more prayerful, compassionate, and consecrated. Before pointing outward, invite God to search your own heart. Then let what grieves Him move you toward intercession, faithful witness, and love that refuses to call darkness light.

The verb ʾānaḥ means to sigh or groan under distress. In Ezekiel 9 it describes more than criticism; it is an inward burden expressed before God over covenant unfaithfulness.
Ezekiel 8 reveals hidden idolatry inside the temple precincts. Chapter 9 follows with judgment and distinguishes those who mourn the abominations. The passage calls readers to holy grief, not speculation about a modern physical mark.
