Truth Strong Enough to Hold
Ezekiel 13–15
“Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter:”

TODAY’S DEVOTION
False prophets offered peace without repentance and covered a failing wall instead of repairing its foundation. Their words sounded comforting, but comfort detached from truth could not survive the storm. God loves His people too much to bless a structure that is already collapsing. He exposes what is unsound so that lives can be built on what is true.
We should welcome encouragement, but we must test every message by Scripture. Not every reassuring voice is the voice of God, and sincerity cannot make an unbiblical promise reliable. Our faith is not sustained by spiritual-sounding language, personality, or popularity. It rests upon the Word of God and the foundation of Jesus Christ. Ask whether the counsel you are receiving leads toward truth, repentance, holiness, faith, and obedience. Real peace does not require us to paint over what God is asking us to repair.

Shālôm describes wholeness, welfare, and peace—not merely the absence of tension. The prophets announced it falsely because the people’s covenant breach remained unaddressed.
Ezekiel 13 confronts prophets who spoke from their own imagination and reassured Jerusalem falsely. The image of an untempered wall shows the difference between cosmetic religious assurance and truth that can withstand God’s examination.
