Turn and Live
Ezekiel 16–18
“For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.”

TODAY’S DEVOTION
Ezekiel refuses the excuse that a person is permanently trapped by inherited failure. Each soul stands before God, and each person is called to turn. This responsibility is serious, but it is also hopeful. Your history may explain wounds and patterns, yet it does not have authority to cancel God’s invitation. The Lord takes no pleasure in destruction. He calls people away from sin because He desires life.
Repentance is more than regret or fear of consequences. It is a Spirit-awakened change of mind and direction that brings us back toward God. The gospel message still begins with this gracious command: repent. You do not have to defend yesterday, minimize sin, or wait until you feel worthy. Agree with God, turn from what He identifies, and move toward the life He gives. His call to repentance is proof that mercy is reaching for you now.

Shûb means to turn, return, or turn back. Biblical repentance is directional: it leaves rebellion and returns the whole person toward God and His ways.
Ezekiel 18 answers a proverb that blamed the present generation’s condition entirely on its fathers. Without denying corporate consequences, God insists on personal moral responsibility and repeatedly invites the wicked to turn and live.
