When Mercy Offends Us
Jonah 4 · Micah 1–2
“For I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness.”
Jonah 4:2 KJV
TODAY’S DEVOTION
Jonah knew God’s character and resented seeing that mercy extended to people he disliked. It is possible to believe correct truths about God while resisting the reach of His compassion. The cross leaves no room to receive grace proudly. Ask God to expose where resentment has narrowed your prayers and to give you His heart for people you would rather avoid.

Context for careful reading.
חַנּוּן · ḥannûn · H2587
Ḥannûn means gracious or compassionate. Jonah correctly names God’s character while revealing his own resistance to it.
Jonah 4 exposes the prophet’s anger after Nineveh repents; Micah 1–2 begins judgment against covenant sin while preserving hope of gathering.
